Assessment: "From Tom Campanella: In Hillsborough, NC (1754), founder William Churton stipulated that town lots had to be ""saved"" within 18 months of purchase by building a ""Habitable House of Stone Brick Squared Loggs Dovetailed or Frame and Shingled on the sd Lott, not less than twenty feet in Length and sixteen feet Breadth."" In 1766 a further provision was added that the roof have ""Nine Feet Pitch in the Clear, with a Brick or Stone Chimney.""
